Sci Fi Channel Official Announcement

The Sci Fi Channel have officially announced their plans for Stargate Universe toady, check it out @ Sci Fi Wire! And check out GateWorld for a full transcript of the Press Release.

"After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.

The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission. Challenges will arise though as the ship comes into range of Stargates placed centuries ahead of the Destiny and the crew is unable to control the ship's navigational schedule. If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them, adding to the drama of encountering new races, enemies and adventures."

Stargate Atlantis Cancelled

~Or so says io9. Does this now clear the way for SGU?

Decision coming soon?!

A little more Stargate Universe talk from Brad Wright in this new interview with Newsarama.com (Main part of interview deals with Continuum so BEWARE SPOILERS)

"Stargate: Universe is very much something we have been discussing with SCI FI and MGM for a long time...too long actually,” concludes Wright. “They need to make some decisions. I think we are at the point of finding out soon. We know what we are doing and what we want to do. We are excited about the prospect but as long as Atlantis is going strong and as long as there are prospects for new movies, it doesn’t matter to me if my next project is two more movies for next year. Essentially, we would put a third series off another year but MGM wants one. They know the franchise is still strong.”

Stargate Universe Revealed!

Brad Wright has revealed much more about the premise of Stargate Universe and their conflict in getting it made in this new interview over at GateWorld.

On what the show will be about:

"The idea of Stargate Universe is that it is set on a ship that was part of an Ancient experiment that was set in motion probably millions of years ago -- one that they never saw to fruition, but that we can," Wright told GateWorld exclusively. "They got busy with the whole ascension thing."

The experiment is "to send a ship across the universe, and to send one ahead of it to seed the galaxies with Stargates, and that they would one day use the ninth chevron to get there [to the ship]. And that's what Stargate Universe is."

Millions of years ago (before their conflict with the Wraith and possibly even before they moved Atlantis to the Pegasus Galaxy), the show would reveal, the Ancients sent out two ships: an automated vessel to place Stargates throughout multiple galaxies in our universe, and a second ship to follow up and explore.

A standard, 7-symbol gate address allows for travel within the same galaxy. Use of the Stargate's eighth chevron allows for travel to a different galaxy. And the ninth chevron will allow the team to reach this second, still unmanned Ancient ship.

On when we might get to see the new series:

"Internally, Robert and I are a little bit torn, because we had such a great time making The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. Making one or two of those a year would be a damn fine thing to do! Honestly, it takes up a big chunk of time writing it, a big chunk of time making it, and then the post on a movie is more than twice as complicated as post on the biggest episodes. So it's not like you can just knock one off while you're making a television show. It's just too much."

Wright said that he is not anxious to return to a schedule that requires the Vancouver team to produce 40 hours of television each year, indicating that Stargate Universe may wait until Atlantis has concluded its run.

Waiting on MGM

Robert Cooper discusses the state of Universe in a recent article over at Gateworld:

And what of Stargate Universe, the highly anticipated third TV series in the franchise? "I don't know!" Cooper said. "Unfortunately it takes a really long time to get deals done. And then everybody wants everything tomorrow."

The series has been pitched, and the decision on the next step currently rests with MGM -- as does the decision for a third SG-1 movie. An MGM representative told GateWorld that the studio is not ready to comment on either just yet.

"I'm not trying to be elusive," he added. "But I feel like we've been predicting things for a couple of years now, and I almost kind of want to say, 'When it happens, it happens.'"

Good to know it's not been forgotten - fingers crossed that it'll be greenlighted soon!

Hear Rob Cooper talk Universe

GateWorld recently published quite a lengthy interview with Robert Cooper which can be downloaded as an mp3. In part one, Rob talks about Stargate Universe. Nothing new is revealed, in fact it's probably the original interview where the previous snippets have been taken from, but it's good to actually listen to him talk about it as his passion and dedication to the franchise really comes through!

Universe in Official Stargate Mag!

There's a small article regarding Stargate Universe in the current edition of the Official Stargate Magazine. No new information is given but it's nice having something in print... seems to make it more official somehow!

I've scanned the article and you can read it here!

Dan Payne For Stargate Universe!!!

When I heard that there was going to be a third Stargate series, I instantly thought of one man:

Dan Payne.

He is already known to Stargate fans the world over for playing such great characters as the SuperSoldier & the UberWraith, so TPTB would already know that he would be a popular choice.
He will also soon be seen as several different monsters in the up and coming online programme *Sanctuary*.

He always seems to have some kind of make-up on in *Stargate: Sg1* & *Stargate: Atlantis*, so we need to see his face for once!!!

Come on Guys!!
Sign the petition to get Dan in *SGU* & let us FINALLY see his full potential!

SIGN The Petition TODAY!!!

Hopes and theories...

What will Stargate Universe all be about? What does the ninth chevron do? Where and when will it take place? Who will be involved? Let's share them theories!

Or speculations aside, what do you hope for or wish to see in the new series? Share your dream scenario!
