Stargate Universe Revealed!

Brad Wright has revealed much more about the premise of Stargate Universe and their conflict in getting it made in this new interview over at GateWorld.

On what the show will be about:

"The idea of Stargate Universe is that it is set on a ship that was part of an Ancient experiment that was set in motion probably millions of years ago -- one that they never saw to fruition, but that we can," Wright told GateWorld exclusively. "They got busy with the whole ascension thing."

The experiment is "to send a ship across the universe, and to send one ahead of it to seed the galaxies with Stargates, and that they would one day use the ninth chevron to get there [to the ship]. And that's what Stargate Universe is."

Millions of years ago (before their conflict with the Wraith and possibly even before they moved Atlantis to the Pegasus Galaxy), the show would reveal, the Ancients sent out two ships: an automated vessel to place Stargates throughout multiple galaxies in our universe, and a second ship to follow up and explore.

A standard, 7-symbol gate address allows for travel within the same galaxy. Use of the Stargate's eighth chevron allows for travel to a different galaxy. And the ninth chevron will allow the team to reach this second, still unmanned Ancient ship.

On when we might get to see the new series:

"Internally, Robert and I are a little bit torn, because we had such a great time making The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. Making one or two of those a year would be a damn fine thing to do! Honestly, it takes up a big chunk of time writing it, a big chunk of time making it, and then the post on a movie is more than twice as complicated as post on the biggest episodes. So it's not like you can just knock one off while you're making a television show. It's just too much."

Wright said that he is not anxious to return to a schedule that requires the Vancouver team to produce 40 hours of television each year, indicating that Stargate Universe may wait until Atlantis has concluded its run.

Stargate Universe
My 1st choice is that SG1 return with new episodes, now that the contract is expired with scifi, it could be syndicated with new episodes.

Universe sounds OK, but its not SG1 the show we all have come to love, we need our by weekly fix of new episodes of SG1!

SG1 could easly continue for years, with Oneal and Gen Hammond being replaced with Gen Landery and Col Mitchel was very succsessful, and shows that the show can continue as a series with old cast members being replaced, with new as the need arises, one word of caution, never replace too many in the same time. It is quite understandable that some actors want to move on, and as long as care is taken to bring in new actors that have good interplay with existing actors, and the writers can continue writing good quality stories the show could last a long time, even replacing the writers as needed, can help keep freash stories, Manny Coto proved this in season 4 of Enterprise, most scifi fans say it was the Best Trek since TOS.

So how about getting SG1 to return to TV? Lets do it!
"After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.

The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission. Challenges will arise though as the ship comes into range of Stargates placed centuries ahead of the Destiny and the crew is unable to control the ship's navigational schedule. If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them, adding to the drama of encountering new races, enemies and adventures."
